I had a less than great day at work yesterday. Nothing to do with my actual job (which I love) but more to do with people being difficult and making me feel bad for doing my job. It actually made me feel really bad about myself and really got to me.
Sometimes people suck. But moving on.
To make myself feel better about my average day (after having a bit of a vent to my husband – there may have been some princess tears) I did some things just for me:
1. Large glass of red wine
Sometimes a glass of wine is a need after a long, hard day at work. Even just the mental cue of unwinding with a glass of wine is helpful to move on from the frustrations of the day.
I didn’t eat my lunch until I was in the car on the way home from work (yep, it was a rough day) so I wasn’t super hungry. My darling husband cut up some cheese and we had Jatz and cheese for dinner, the perfect accompaniment to my red wine.
2. Long, hot shower
There is nothing better than a long, hot shower (okay, a few things, but go with me on this). Last night I had a long shower and washed my hair. I love having a nice long shower and just letting the water wash over me, what better way to wash your troubles away than down the drain along with your shampoo and conditioner.
3. Paint my nails a fun colour
While I was off work last week I went to the pharmacy to pick up some more vitamin C to fight this cold I can’t get rid of. The pharmacy always tricks me into buying some new makeup or nail polish. I can’t help it, the displays are just so pretty! I bought this Maybelline Color Show nail polish in ‘Pink Shock’ (among other things) and it’s such an awesome bright colour, although it hurts me to write ‘Color’ with the
wrong American spelling. For some reason it dried with an oddly matte finish, which I don’t love in a nail polish, but I always add a top coat anyway so it didn’t matter too much.
I don’t paint my nails very often, it’s usually too much effort and they chip too soon with all the cooking and cleaning I do, but I enjoy having pretty nails every now and then.
I felt much better after taking some ‘me’ time and today is promising to be a better day. What things make you feel better after a long and/or hard day at work?
