I’ve been going to Xtend Barre for 3 months now and seeing as through my initial post on my obsession with Xtend Barre was so popular I thought I would give you a little update on my progress after 3 months.
- My flexibility has improved so much
I can touch my toes now! I haven’t been able to do that since early High School!! My hamstrings are so much looser now, as well as lots of other muscles that have always been way too tight (glutes, I’m looking at you!) meaning my flexibility has improved dramatically. I’m having to push myself further to get a good stretch, where before my muscles would feel a stretch without much effort at all!
- My posture and alignment of my back is better
I have mild scoliosis and go to an osteopath each month to get my back into alignment. One of my biggest problems before I started Xtend Barre was my tight muscles pulling my back and pelvis out of alignment. My osteopath commented that my pelvis isn’t getting pulled out of alignment anymore and my back is better supported as my muscles are much stronger and not as tight. My back is being held in the correct position now because the muscles are actually doing their work! The other thing she has commented on is my improved posture, I’m standing up straighter and holding myself better. All of these improvements also mean that I am getting way less back pain which is definitely a good thing!!
- I can do things I never thought I would be able to do
I have always had zero upper body strength so the fact that I can now do tricep dips with my bum off the ground is a huge deal for me. As is the fact that I can use the 1kg weights for all the arms workout, do ab work without dying (my core strength has also always been a weakness of mine!). I can also do crazy exercises I would never have been game (or able!) to try before, especially almost anything using the ball! I’m really loving being able to do things I never thought I would physically be able to do!
- I have toned up a lot
I haven’t really lost very much weight since starting (I’ve lost maybe 1kg) but I have toned up so much! My tummy is flatter (not flat, never will be, but significantly more toned), my arms have definition and my legs and bum definitely look more trim. My clothes are definitely looking better on me and I’ve had lots of comments about how slim I’m looking.
- I can cope with stress much better when I’m exercising
The last month at work was atrociously busy and I am convinced that I was able to handle it so well and not let the stress get to me because I have been exercising regularly and taking some time for me. I used to eat lunch at my desk everyday. Now I get out for lunch at least twice a week for a class, no matter what is going on, and it helps me deal. I also do at least one class at 5pm which means I leave work at 4.45pm and don’t end up staying at work for too long after hours. This helps to give my day some structure and ‘me time’ so my day isn’t completely overtaken by work or stress.
- I actually look forward to my exercise now!!
I never thought I would say that. Even in the midst of a crazy hard class where I am exhausted, it is still fun. I have pushed myself harder than I thought I could ever go and I actually look forward to my classes. I love the instructors and the owner and I love seeing them every few days. They have been so encouraging and have definitely helped me to improve as much as I have! I always thought exercise was a bit of a necessary chore but this has been so much fun and I love seeing how I’ve improved over the past few months. It definitely spurs me on to keep at it.
So those are my 6 improvements I noticed from my 3 months at Xtend Barre. I’m really looking forward to how much I can improve over the next 3 months!
