Yesterday I shared that watching the Star Wars trilogies (both of them!) is a bit of a Christmas tradition in our house. We do actually watch Christmas movies at Christmas time as well so I thought for my Friday Five today I would give you a list of five of the best Christmas movies (well, best to me anyway).
1. Love Actually
My husband literally won’t let me watch this at any other time of the year because ‘it’s a Christmas movie’ so I relish watching this awesome movie when I can. I love the multiple story lines and the way they interrelate, the awesome cast (Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson… as if that isn’t a British actor jackpot!), and of course, the Christmassy nature of it all. Definitely a must-watch in my book.
2. Home Alone
I loved this movie growing up and I still love it. I can’t see Macauley Culkin as anything other than Kevin, I just can’t. I love the elaborate protection of the house that Kevin does. It may have had me a bit obsessed with setting booby traps growing up.
3. The Holiday
Kate Winslet is amazing, as is Jack Black in this film. I love a chick flick and this one is done really well. Oddly, it’s not a film I automatically associate with Christmas even though it is a Christmastime film.
4. Mickey’s Christmas Carol
I had to get a Disney movie in, such is my love for them. I have very fond memories of this movie growing up and anything that adapts Dickens for a wide audience is a winner. Dickens’ Christmas Carol is possibly the best known Christmas story (outside the Bible of course) and I love it’s myriad of adaptions in popular culture.
5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I love Jim Carrey’s acting so I love him as Dr Seuss’ Grinch. It’s a great movie (even if the incessant Seussian rhyming got to me a little at times!) and it’s nice to see a film like this done before motion capture became a big thing.
