So on my birthday this year I published a post called 28 things to do before I turn 28, listing 28 things I want to achieve in the next year.
It’s been a couple of months so I thought I should give you an update on where I’m up to in getting through my list (and you know, there’s nothing like a little public accountability to get yourself motivated!)
So here we go, with grades for effort:
1: Continue exercising regularly and looking after my body.
A+. I’m going strong with Xtend Barre so I think this gets a tick so far.
2: Celebrate one year of writing my blog.
A. Really remains to be seen but I’ve been posting 6 times a week since the beginning of August so it’s looking good.
3: Repaint our spare rooms.
C. It’s on the horizon. We’ve agreed on a paint colour which is a step in the right direction. I think our time off work between Christmas and New Years will be painting time.
4: Meet up with friends more.
B-. I’ve made some effort on this front (and substantially more than before my birthday) but needs some more work I think.
5: Sleep better.
B-. Getting there. Read my 5 tips for a good night’s sleep if you too want to sleep better!
6: Read at least 28 books (that convenient number again)
B+. I’m up to 6 so far with this one (I’ve finally finished the White Queen series now), and I’m halfway through 7 and 8. I think I need to pick up the pace slightly, especially if I’m going to start reading the quite dense history books on my list!
7: Study something, even it is just on my own.
F B+. Zero progress on this so far. Unless you count learning about blogging.
Actually, no, I’ve decided that it counts! I’ve done Clever Cookie School of Blog and I’m part way through both Elite Blog Academy and Ready, Set, Blog, so I’m going to claim that.
8: Learn to knit.
F. Legitimately zero progress on this. Can anyone suggest a good Youtube channel for learning how to knit?
9: Wear everything in my wardrobe once.
B. I think I’m making good progress on this, but we’re only 3 months in so we’ll see.
10: Take more photos.
I’d give myself a soft B- for this one so far. I have taken more photos, but a lot of them are for the blog and I’m not sure they count. More effort required.
11: Do every day of the FMS Photo a day challenges.
A-. My efforts with the photoaday challenge have been far greater since August. I did get distracted in October and didn’t finish, but August and September went well and November has been slow but I’m on track to finish. You can check out my recaps here.
12: Sew more.
Another F. I’ve recently reorganised my sewing stuff and relocated it to a new home in the study so hopefully this will encourage me to actually use it!
13: Spend a weekend away from technology.
And the F’s keep coming! Definitely have not been detached from my technology during waking hours for any significant amount of time. This one will need some planning I think.
14: Paint something (other than a wall).
Another F! No painting here. Maybe when things quiet down a little more I’ll have some more time for this.
15: Be more patient.
I asked my husband to grade me on this one as I am not really qualified to do so. He gave me a C. After some negotiation it was upgraded to a C+. Definite improvement needed!!
16: Take a weekend away somewhere new.
F. No weekends away yet. We have plans to go camping somewhere so we’ll see.
17: Have family Christmas at our house.
A. Plans are all in motion for my family to spend Christmas at our house!
18: Enjoy the outdoor areas of our house more.
B. I have been using the daybed a little more, especially on the days that I am home during the day. It’s starting to get really hot now so I think use will be a more evening activity.
19: Actually enjoy the summer this year.
N/A. It’s not technically summer yet. But I’ve made some use of the warmer weather. Not great use of it though.
20: Make more ‘investment’ purchases with my clothes, rather than buying ‘fast fashion’.
C. I haven’t bought any investment pieces, but I also haven’t really bought any clothes so I’m giving myself a C for self-restraint.
21: Have more people over for dinner.
B. We’ve had some people over, but definitely room for improvement.
22: Try more new recipes.
A. I started to try new recipes and share them with you once a week. You can check out all my recipes here.
23: Save more.
D-. The thought is there, the execution is definitely lacking.
24: Pay off our car.
D-. We’ve made some small extra payments off the car but no significant dents have been made in the balance yet.
25: Spend some more time with my brother.
B. My brother has come and spent a couple of weekends with us at our place so I think that’s a win!
26: Do the Colour Run.
C. I’ve booked our spots in the February Color Run in Canberra. Now we just have to do it!
27: Make more effort with my hair.
B-. A lot of the time I’m still going with my standard donut bun, but I’ve been using my Cloud Nine curling wand and my GHD more lately.
28: Have fun!
A. I’ll give myself an A for this, I think I’ve earned it!!
Do you check in with your goals once you’ve set them? Any advice for the areas I’m failing?
