Hooray, it’s Friday! It’s been a looong week for me, first week back at work is always hard. I’m very jealous of all you people who are still on summer holidays (or those people who don’t work!) and I’ve been missing my down time this week settling back into normal life.
Despite myself, I am kind of enjoying my summer. And we all know I am not the biggest fan of summer, but after doing my 50 things to do in summer post, I am trying to embrace the summer this year.
So my Friday Five today is all about things I am loving (strong word!) about summer.
- Summer storms
Possibly my favourite part of the crazy summer weather. It’s super hot and steamy during the day (not my favourite part at all) and then a cool change comes over in the afternoon/night and you get these amazing, wild summer storms with rain, lightning and thunder. The works! It’s pretty awesome, and petrichor (the smell of rain on dry earth) is one of my favourite smells ever.
- All of the cold things
I love iced coffee, and ice cream, and ice blocks, and cold, refreshing fruit juice. None of which are as enjoyable in the cold, cold Canberra winter, so I am particularly enjoying blitzing some watermelon and ice for a delicious and refreshing beverage. And frozen grapes are also quite the winner.
- Wearing light, summery dresses
Getting dressed for work in summer is a challenge (staying cool and looking professional can be a hard balance to strike), but weekends are all about the light summer dresses that are zero effort to throw on and keep me nice and cool!
- That moment of instant relief when you walk from a hot outside to a cool, perfectly air-conditioned inside.
Enough said really.
- The sun is up for so long!
This one must drive some parents insane, but I love that I can leave the house in the morning in the daylight, and come home and it’s still light! It definitely isn’t this way in winter and it can get a bit hard leaving for work in the dark and coming home in the dark.
What are you loving about summer at the moment?
