I’ve had a couple of days off work this week because I’ve been sick, so I’ve been laying around doing not much. But it’s got me thinking about things to do on a sick day, because your options are somewhat limited.
- Lay down and rest
Bed or couch – your choice. I usually relocate to the couch after my husband leaves for work in the morning because we don’t have a tv in our bedroom. Have a nap if you can manage it.
- Binge watch old tv shows
I find old shows or movies are best because then I can comfortably fall asleep during them and I won’t worry I’ve missed anything. I’ve been rewatching Friends this week while I’ve been off.
- Drink lots (of water!)
Make sure you keep hydrated! Sticking to water is best, drink some Hydralyte if you’ve been a bit dehydrated. If you want something a bit different try some herbal tea. If it’s a sore throat that ails you try some lemon tea. If it’s an upset stomach try some peppermint.
- Eat small meals
Don’t binge eat when you are home sick. Much better to go for small meals and if you’ve been throwing up or have an upset stomach stay away from dairy. I like toast with butter for a simple and safe snack.
- Wear comfy clothes, preferably pyjamas
Get up in the morning and have a shower if it makes you feel a bit better but I always like getting back into pyjamas and resting in the most comfortable way possible. And make sure you keep warm!
