I have officially hit the halfway mark! Hooray! I had my 20 week scan on Friday last week so got to see some new shots of our little jellybean wriggling around in there and found out it’s a little girl! Isn’t she cute?
Jellybean would not stop moving for the entire ultrasound! But luckily she cooperated enough for the sonographer to confirm that our instincts were right and we were indeed having a girl.
We went out afterwards to the shop and bought a couple of outfits for jellybean to celebrate. Girl clothes are so cute! I’m going to have to restrain myself from buying all the cute things!
It’s nice to have some new pics of the bubba to share (and to stare at!). I still can’t get over how amazingly clear they are!
I felt the first little infrequent flutters at 18 weeks 4 days, then a bit more solid movement at 19 weeks 4 days when Stu felt the baby kick for the first time! The baby was moving around lots while I was trying to go to sleep (not a promising sign of things to come!) and I could feel the kicks from the outside so I texted Stu, who was in the lounge room playing PlayStation, and he came racing in to feel it. He looked as excited as a kid on Christmas morning, it was adorable. He felt a few little movements before the baby became uncooperative and moved. It was so surreal and exciting.
It’s a bizarre thing feeling the baby move, but it’s wonderful. I’m starting to feel her moving around a lot more now, especially when I’m sitting still at work or laying down to go to sleep. It’s still not regular or strong kicks but it’s getting there.
I’m so excited to have reached halfway, it feels like a countdown now to meet our little one, even though it’s still a good 4 months away! It’s a bit strange to be starting to plan things at work knowing I won’t be there because I’ll be on maternity leave!
My sleep is starting to be a little less interrupted which is nice, most mornings I still wake up exhausted to the bone but I think it’s getting a bit better (wishful thinking?).
My belly is well and truly big and pregnant now! It’s starting to get in the way and make it harder to get up and down when I’m sitting or laying down. I’m getting used to working around it but it’s still a bit of a surprise how much of a different it makes. My balance has shifted a little to accommodate the new weight at the front after a few weeks of questionable balance (and it probably wasn’t great to start with).
My weight gain has also started to kick in. I only gained 1 kg in the first trimester, but I’ve well and truly started stacking it on with the weight gain putting on 4kg since then! I think about a kilo of that is just Easter eggs. I ate a lot of Easter eggs over the long weekend. Totally addicted!
I’m still going to my Xtend Barre classes (more on that in another post soon) which I think has helped my body adjust to all these changes better than I might otherwise have done.
My friends have told me that the best bits of their pregnancy were between 20 and 30 weeks so I’m looking forward to that hopefully being true for me too! I haven’t loved pregnancy as much as I thought I would but it’s starting to get a bit easier and a bit more enjoyable so hopefully it continues that way!!
Did you find out the gender when you were pregnant?
Today I’m linking up with Essentially Jess for #IBOT (I blog on Tuesdays)
