It’s really different doing it this time because I’m pregnant and only have a limited wardrobe to work with due to not fitting into pretty much any of my old clothes, so I’ve had to be even more creative than usual to make it work!!
It’s been a great way to avoid falling into a fashion rut while I’m pregnant when it would be so easy to wear the same thing every day, and I’m loving seeing what everyone else is wearing.
If you’re not familiar with it, the Style Dare was created by Andrea at Fox in Flats as a way to bust out of a fashion rut and it’s so much fun!!
This is what I’ve been wearing so far in May:
Day 1: White shirt – the only white shirt I have that fits over the belly!! It’s a nursing/maternity top from Pea in a Pod (this one in particular) and has a nifty little panel that lifts up for easy breastfeeding. I’m trying to choose maternity clothes that will be practical for once my little one is here, not just for now, to make the best use of my money when investing in clothes at the moment.
Day 2: Up, up – tried my hand at a some dutch braids, turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. (I owe all my braiding skills to Christina from Hair Romance and her book 30 braids in 30 days. If you don’t know how to braid, check it out. I couldn’t braid at all before I bought the book!!)
Day 3: On my shoulders – I love a waterfall cardigan. This Witchery one (last season) is pretty and it’s nice to have a light coloured cardigan to contrast with all the dark colours in my wardrobe.
Day 4: Geek chic – I did plan on wearing a button up shirt but I discovered that none of them fit anymore so a slick bun and my reading glasses are where it’s at.
Day 5: Bold bag – this Pisidia bowler bag in mustard is the brightest colour bag I have (you can read more about it in my post here) and it’s a nice pop of colour in an otherwise monochrome look.
Day 6: Slick legs – leggings are as slick as my legs get these days! These Blanqi leggings are amazing for pregnancy.
Day 7: Monochromatic – my go-to look! Black makes up a large proportion of my maternity wardrobe at the moment. I love this ASOS jacket, it’s so cute and falls in a way that is flattering on a growing belly!
Day 8: Vamp vixen – I dusted off my liquid liner for the first time in a long time (and surprised myself with how quickly I could still apply it) and some berry coloured lipstick rather than the red I would instinctually go for. This one is Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned.
Day 9: Dynamic duo – stripes and jeans, the perfect weekend combo. This Eve of Eden top (gifted) is super comfy and I love anything in stripes!!
Day 10: Channelling – I tried channelling my casual French girl in some stripes (and had intended to get an outfit photo but it was so cold and so windy when we were outside that I quickly abandoned the idea and changed into my pjs – channelling comfort all the way!!)
Day 11: Fave dress, different – I had intended to wear a knit over my fave dress of the moment (this one from Pea in a Pod) but when I got dressed in the morning I found that none of them fit the bump! So I quickly grabbed a sash from another dress, threw a long necklace on and called it a day.
Day 12: Blue baby – I love bright blue but have never had much of it in my wardrobe but I recently added this gorgeous ruffled wrap dress to my wardrobe and I am loving it!! (gifted)
Day 13: 70s situation – this printed wrap dress is about as 70s as I get. The print sort of has a 70s vibe… maybe?
Day 14: Foxy flats – I am all about the flats at the moment!! I have been living in these Big W ankle boots (as you can probably tell from my outfit shots!), they are super comfy and go with everything.
Day 15: Red lipstick – while this would normally be an easy one for me, I bowed out as my grandfather had passed away on this day and I spent my day at home in yoga pants and a t-shirt. You can check out 5 of my favourite red lipsticks here though.
Check out the list for the rest of May:
I think I’ll be scouring my ‘outfit inspiration‘ board on Pinterest to rustle up some good ideas for the rest of the month!!
Keep an eye out for another post once the month is over with part two of my style dares. You can follow along by checking the #foxinflatsstyledare hashtag on Instagram, and of course by following me on Instagram.
