My bathroom (actually our ensuite) is one of the most frustrating rooms in our house to organise. The vanity is teeny tiny, with essentially no bench space and the cupboard beneath the sink is awkward to work with because of the pipes.
We have a cupboard for storage in the corner of the bathroom which helps a lot, but for a long time after moving in here I struggled to find a way to make all the products I use on a daily basis for my skin and hair as easily accessible as possible, and probably more importantly, as easy to clean up as possible.
I hate clutter and disorganisation but I also am not good in the mornings, so cleaning up lots of bottles is not going to be high priority for me when my husband is rushing me out the door because ‘we’re already late’ (depends who’s interpretation of ‘late’ you want to listen to). My husband also refuses to install any kind of open shelving for me to store my products because he hates visual clutter (and I kind of agree with him on this – the space is much nicer without ‘stuff’ everywhere).
Enter the humble basket.
In it I have all my skincare products (face wash, moisturiser, face mask, facial oils, bb cream), my deodorant and all the haircare products I use on a regular basis (which includes hair oil, leave in conditioner, hairspray and various texturising products).
It’s super easy to pull out of the cupboard, use all the products I need and then put it back into the cupboard when I’m done with it with minimal effort and leaving no mess behind on the bathroom counter, eliminating the potential for clutter.
I’ve trialled a couple of different styles of basket and I’m loving the one I’m currently using which I actually picked up from The Reject Shop for $8 (bargain!). It’s the perfect size for the awkward space I have to work with, big enough to fit everything I need into it and structurally strong enough to handle being moved in and out of the cupboard twice daily.
I think I’ve been using the basket system in our bathroom now for almost two years and I can honestly say it’s been the one thing that has made the biggest difference to my bathroom organisation and tidiness!
