November felt like a big beauty month for me. I got a nice big order in from Sephora and Mecca (I’ll be doing a whole other post on my haul so keep an eye out for that) and I’ve had a few weeks with my shiny new products now. Plus I was inspired to clean up and reorganise my beauty stash so I’ve rediscovered some old favourites as well.
So let’s get into it! I’ll start off with some of the goodies I got in the mail this month!
Skincare and haircare
On the skincare front, I am loving Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I used to use this many years ago (when my skin was young and didn’t really need it to be honest) but I’ve recently rediscovered it and am loving how my skin looks when I use it! I think it’s making a big difference in smoothing and repairing my skin and helps with the tiredness I still sometimes experience.
For my hair, I am all about Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It right now. I’ll be sharing more on this product soon (edit: this post is now up! You can check it out here), but I can tell you that it has quickly become an essential part of my haircare routine. It’s made styling my hair so much easier and lets me air dry my hair (which I do all the time) without fear of frizz.
So many favourites here, so I did try to narrow it down slightly! These are products that have been on high rotation during November.
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in St Moritz – now that I’ve been getting a bit more sun and, therefore, a bit more colour I’ve had to invest in a slightly darker tinted moisturiser.
Hourglass Ambient Light Palette – I’ve been using Dim Light as a setting powder over my tinted moisturiser which helps take away some of the shininess I get from my sunscreen but leaves a nice natural dewy look.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Fearless* – I am so in love with this blush! It’s a bright coral colour which is perfect for spring and summer and it is so super pigmented I am sure this will last me for a long time. You only need the lightest sweep of a blush brush to get a decent amount of colour and it lasts for such a long time. I think I’ve worn it every time I’ve put on makeup since I got it!
Lanolips Lip Ointment with Gloss in Mulberry – I recently found my tube of this lip gloss and I remembered why I love it so much! It’s lovely and moisturising (like all Lanolips products) and has the most amazing colour. I love that it adds a nice bit of colour to my lips without needing a mirror for applying! Unfortunately, it was a limited edition product for Christmas last year (or maybe the year before?) but their special edition product this year is the 101 ointment in Cranberry if you’re feeling like picking one up.
My favourites this month have to be my Seed Heritage shorts and Target shirtdress. I anticipate both of these being on high rotation this summer! I actually picked up the Seed shorts in blue and black because I love them so much but this blue seems to not be on the website anymore (they still have the black and a light chambray blue though). They’re so slouchy and comfortable, I love them.
The shirtdress I picked up on the recommendation of the lovely Vicki from Style on V (you can see her post here). I was a bit unsure about it at first, shirtdresses can sometimes not be particularly flattering on me due to my uh ‘generous endowments’… but this is a perfect fit and is great for breastfeeding. I think what makes it a lot better than most shirt dresses I’ve tried is the drawstring waist which allows me to cinch it in a bit more to stop it looking too big. It’s a definite favourite!
Food and drink
When it comes to food I am all about avocado right now! Any chance I get to have some avocado on toast I am on it. I mix my avocado with feta, lime juice and pepper and it is amazingly delicious. I think I’ve had this for lunch almost every day this month and I’m still not sick of it.
I have to let you know about my new favourite podcast, The Lively Show. I’m totally addicted to this podcast. Jess Lively has some amazing people she has interviewed and she asks some really insightful questions so you really get the most out of the people she has on. I’ve been working my way through her old episodes (she’s up to episode 106 now) on my morning walks. The guests Jess interviews are all so inspiring and I am always being challenged, inspired and motivated as I listen.
My favourite app this month is definitely Sound Sleeper. There are expensive white noise machines you can buy to help your baby sleep but I just bought this app and installed it on an old iPhone. It’s a free app but if you pay a small amount (I think it’s around $2.50?) you can upgrade it which allows you to have it on for longer than 30 minutes. I use the ‘ocean’ sound (the actual ‘white noise’ noises are so annoying!) and just leave it on continuously when she is down for a sleep. I’ve actually found that it helps us go to sleep as well (Grace still sleeps in our bedroom) and the best part is that I also have the app on my current iPhone so if we’re out anywhere and she is having trouble going to sleep I can use my phone to give her some white noise. (I did this when I was at Little Blog Big a few weeks ago)
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I recently joined my local library and have been going through books like a woman possessed. It’s been so lovely to get back into reading now that I feel like I have the mental capacity to cope with a plot again (now that I’ve just about come out of that newborn haze). I’ve read Me Before You* by Jojo Moyes, What Alice Forgot* and Big Little Lies* by Liane Moriarty. Right now I’m in the middle of The Taming of the Queen* by Philippa Gregory and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying* by Marie Kondo. I think my favourite of the lot would have to be Big Little Lies, it was a pretty easy read (I finished it off in two days) but it was very thought provoking. I’m really enjoying reading Liane Moriarty’s books, I wasn’t sure I would like them but they’ve actually been a really good read!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this start to a new series here at Life at Number Five!
