It’s a surprise to no one that I love routines, so I am especially fond of my skincare routine. I love the ritual nature of skincare, I find it very soothing and relaxing.
I have a tendency to change up my skincare lineup often because I like trying new things and experimenting with different products and routines. While I often love the products I use, I’m not necessarily wedded to them so it’s nice to change things up to see if I can find my ‘holy grail’ products.
I keep all my skincare products in a basket under my sink (you can see my post on my bathroom organisation here) so that they’re all in one place. It’s easy to find everything, and most importantly it’s easy to put everything away so I don’t have bottles cluttering up my very limited vanity space.
In the morning I use one of two cleansers. I will either use Go-To Properly Clean in the shower or wash my face with Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and a muslin cloth after a shower. Next is Pixi Milky Hydrating Mist, I love hydrating products during the day so I opt for this instead of a traditional toner. This is followed by a few drops of Aesop Fabulous Face Oil massaged into my skin. I do have oily skin and I have found that using oils morning and night actually makes my skin look and feel hydrated and glowy without being too oily looking. Then I use my moisturiser which at the moment is Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser followed by my La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light sunscreen. This sunscreen doesn’t leave my skin too oily and it blends really well and doesn’t feel heavy on my face, which I love! I finish up my morning skincare with a BB cream, the one I’m using right now is L’Oreal Skin Perfection 5 in 1 Instant BB Cream.
If I’ve been wearing makeup I remove that with Bioderma Crealine then wash my face with Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and a muslin cloth and follow up with Pixi Glow Tonic. Then I use Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair followed by Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. I then apply my eye cream, right now I’m using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye, which is almost finished so I’m in the market for a new eye cream. Then I’ll apply my Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser. I’ll also pop Trilogy Everything Balm on my lips just before I go to bed.
A couple of times a week I’ll add a few extras to my nighttime routine. The first is Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys. These are exfoliation made super easy, just a quick swipe and rinse after cleansing and I’m done! It uses lactic acid as an exfoliant so it’s much more gentle than other exfoliants. The other extras I add in are face masks. I try to do a face mask once a week now (I got really slack with it for a while!). The two I’m using right now are Oskia Renaissance Mask and Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque.
Writing it all down makes it seem like a lot, but I find that it’s a fairly streamlined and quick process and like I said earlier, I just love the ritual of taking time to take care of my skin.
What’s your skincare routine like?
