As I mentioned in my post Simple last week, I’ve been trying to slow down and really be in the moment lately. Something I’ve found that has really helped is focusing on gratitude, especially of the little things.
So often it’s easier to focus on the problems, the frustrations, the work that needs to be done, and you can so easily overlook the things that your partner did to make your life slightly easier today, the sweet message from a friend or the other small things that bring a smile to your face.
(This post is brought to you by Nuffnang and Circa Home)
So lately I’ve been trying to focus on being grateful for these little things that make life worth living. Some of the little things I’ve been grateful for in the last week are a day trip to Kangaroo Valley and Berry with Stu and Gracie, her gorgeous little smile, coffee with my friends, the cooler autumn weather, a beautiful new candle and finding my favourite chocolate on special!!
I’ve found focusing on gratitude is so much more powerful when I actually write it down. Just the simple act of writing something down makes me focus on it, and it becomes clearer to me than things I just think to myself. It’s especially helpful when I write it down and put it somewhere I can see it. It’s a great reminder for me, especially when we have some harder days like when Grace is teething (oh my goodness it is never ending!), or I’m having trouble getting her to go down for a nap, which can get a bit demoralising and stressful. But by having these little reminders around it helps to keep me positive and stay relaxed.
By the way, if you want to download the gorgeous notepaper in the picture above for yourself, you can get it right here!
One of my favourite and super simple ways to bring a smile to my face and relax a little is to light a candle. They add such a nice smell to the house and make me feel like I’ve got the house together even on the days I’m behind on the housework. I have candles in just about every room of my house and always have a collection of at least three on my coffee table at any given time. (I may have a slight candle addiction… But they make me so happy!)
This week I’ve been burning this beautiful Honeyflower and Sandalwood Classic Candleˆ. It’s been such a great mood booster while I’ve been a bit under the weather. The smell of it is subtle enough that I don’t feel that it’s overpowering but it spreads throughout the house leaving a sweet aroma lingering in the air. I especially love this candle at night when the light from the candle shines through and lights up the word ‘gratitude’ on the side. It made me so happy to glance up and see ‘gratitude’ right in front of me as a gentle reminder.
Circa Home brought out this special limited edition Honeyflower and Sandalwood range in time for Mother’s Day and I am loving this collection. Candles make perfect presents, especially for mums! I may have bought myself a candle last week for Grace to give me for Mother’s Day.
