It’s time to share my favourites for April!
If you haven’t seen my other favourites posts, this is a monthly post series where I’ll be sharing my ‘favourites’ for the month – products, food, clothes, books and anything else I’m loving and couldn’t get enough of in the last month.
The change of seasons means my lips are getting super dry so I have been loving my Lanolips 101 Ointment and Lemonaid Lip Treatment. I have a couple of these scattered around various places including my handbag/nappy bag, the pram and my bedside table. They are so thick and moisturising, I love it. Definitely a must-have for this time of year.
While I’m still loving my Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel I am using my Go-to Skincare Properly Clean cleanser more and more in the mornings. Mostly out of laziness really! This one I can use while I’m in the shower, it cleans so well while leaving my skin so soft and it smells so good!
With the cooler weather I’ve switched to something slightly heavier for my base than a BB/CC cream or tinted moisturiser. I have really liked the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light lately (I use it in the shade Intensity 2.0). It’s still closer to a BB cream than a full coverage foundation but it’s a little richer and a little better coverage which I tend to appreciate at this time of year.
I’ve been mixing up my cheek colour a little and have been reaching for Benefit Posietint* to give me a pop of colour. I like that it’s a pretty pink colour and the gel-like consistency is really easy to apply to the cheeks and lips. I do love cream and gel products but I don’t use them very much in summer because my skin is a bit oily so those products can get a bit melty on my skin. I definitely start using products like this a lot more when it gets cooler so I’d expect to be using a lot more creamy products over the next few months!
If I only had time to do one thing when I do my makeup in the morning it would be my brows. I love having my brows a little more filled in because I feel like it makes me look a bit more polished and a bit more ’together’ (even when I’m not). Over the past few months I have been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz* in the shade Medium Brown and I love it. The nib is super fine which means you can get a really light, feathery line which looks a lot more natural than a heavier line.
I have finally succumbed to the pull of Snapchat. For the longest time I just didn’t get it. At all. But then I decided to force myself to at least learn what all the type was about and I am addicted! I love following some of my favourite bloggers to get a behind the scenes peek at their lives. It’s like a quick and easily accessible vlog. I’ve always wanted to vlog (but I don’t think my life is quite interesting enough!!) so this is a nice easy way to dip my toe in the water. Reading and watching
During April I picked up loads of new books from the library but the one I think I loved most was Techbitch* by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I read it in one day. And then re-read it the next day! It’s not the kind of book I would naturally pick up and I would never have read it if it weren’t for Anne from Modern Mrs Darcy recommending it! But I am so glad I did! I just loved the characters and the storyline, it was a perfect light read (I suppose it would fit into the ‘chick-lit’ category although I’m loathe to use that term) to break up some of my heavier reads at the moment.
As far as watching goes, when Stu and I were sick during April we binge watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I don’t typically love super ridiculous comedy and when I saw this pop-up in my Netflix suggestions I thought it would be that type of comedy I don’t really like. But I was so wrong. It was funny without being too over the top and we both really enjoyed it. We were really sad when we came to the end of the seasons Netflix has.
Speaking of Netflix, the movie I loved this month was a Netflix original called Special Correspondents which came out at the end of April. It stars Eric Bana and Ricky Gervais and it was so funny! It was a great lazy day movie and I really enjoyed a comedy with a bit of satire thrown in.
I made this Anzac Slice a couple of times during April (including for Anzac Day) and it was so good! I loved having the leftovers around for the few days after I made it to snack on during the day. It was really easy to make and it was a nice twist on a traditional Anzac biscuit. I have a feeling this will be a regular slice around here, Anzac Day or not!
The other ‘treat’ I’ve been eating lately are lactation cookies. Thoroughly exciting I know! At the start of April we were having problems with Grace’s nighttime sleeps and she was cluster feeding at night like crazy so I suspected my supply wasn’t keeping up with her needs. Along with a few other changes to her nighttime routine to get things back to normal again, I started eating lactation cookies (that a lovely friend of mine made for me while I was sick and stressing about it!) and my supply increased so quickly. I already have a relatively decent supply so I only eat one or two a day otherwise I feel like I’m too full but it’s helped top up my nighttime supply and I feel a lot better about knowing Grace is getting a good feed before bed. I’ve now made my own using this recipe and I really like them. I made a double portion so I could freeze them and this lot should last me about 3-4 weeks!
So those are my favourites for April! What have been your favourites lately?
