For a while I was getting out of the house every morning after Stu left for work. I would bundle Grace into the pram and walk for an hour and a half. Grace would have a sleep and we both benefitted from the fresh air and the exercise.
When I started giving Grace solids for breakfast, her feeding and sleeping schedule completely changed which really threw my morning routine out of whack!
Grace now wakes up around 6.30am and has a breastfeed, then has cuddles with us in bed until we get up. By the time we’re up, showered and dressed it’s about 7.45am and Grace has breakfast with us. She takes about half an hour for any meal right now, so when she’s done (usually between 8 and 8.30am) she wants another breastfeed and then a sleep. So she’s now eating and sleeping when we used to be walking.
For a while, I struggled with the change to our routine and then a little bout of sickness so I wasn’t able to get myself organised to go for a walk.
Last week I noticed that I’ve been feeling a bit ‘blah’ lately and realised that the lack of fresh air and exercise was mostly to blame. So this week I’ve been forcing myself to get organised and go out for a walk, and oh my goodness the impact on my mood and mental state is incredible.
When I get out for a walk I feel more clear-headed, I have more energy, I eat less junk, I’m more organised and motivated for the rest of the day to do the things I should and I have infinitely more patience (which I’m sure Stu appreciates!).
So if you’ve been feeling a bit blah lately too and have let your exercise slide a little for whatever reason, try getting out for a walk today and see if it makes a difference!
Does going for a walk make a big difference for you too?
(Of course, if you’d rather fight that ‘blah’ feeling with a free case of wine, head this way!)
