I can’t believe it’s the end of May already! Where is this year going?! Anyway, unbelievably it is time for my May Favourites!
If you haven’t seen my other favourites posts, this is a monthly post series where I’ll be sharing my ‘favourites’ for the month – products, food, clothes, books and anything else I’m loving and couldn’t get enough of in the last month.
I try and do a face mask once a week but sometimes I completely forget or just don’t get the time, which is why this Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask is so amazing. It’s a really hydrating mask that you don’t have to wash off! Just pop it on after cleansing and then go to sleep! I love that I can easily use this mask once or twice a week without much effort and it keeps my skin looking so nice. It’s a really good one to use at this time of year too, as the cooler change in weather can often leave skin looking a bit more parched than usual.
The other main skincare item that made it into my usual routine this month was this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue. I mentioned in my skincare routine post that I was looking for a new eye cream and after a month of using this I love it! It’s really creamy so I use it as part of my nighttime skincare routine and I think it’s making a difference to my dark circles.
I’ve found a new favourite base this month and it is the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50* in the shade Medium. I’ve heard people rave about this product (particularly my beauty blogger crush, Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup) and although it took me a while to purchase it, I can already tell this will make it into the repurchase list! It’s a lot fuller coverage than it sounds (being a CC Cream) and it really just is ‘my skin but better’. I love how this makes my skin look, it’s the perfect balance of coverage without being too heavy or too shiny. It’s definitely my go-to foundation/base option these days.
I also picked up a new concealer after hearing many good things about it and that was the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (I’m using it in the shade Medium Light Neutral). It’s a creamy concealer applied with a wand applicator which kind of reminds me of the Nars Creamy Concealer. I found the Urban Decay Naked Concealer to be a little bit easier to blend and a little bit more natural in the coverage than the Nars and I think it’s pretty safe to say I’m a convert. I do typically find concealers hard to buy because I have such dark circles and concealers tend to not cover them as well as I would like, but I’m really liking the coverage on this one. Hopefully I stay as in love with it as I am now!
I have rediscovered how good the Beauty Blender actually is this month. I had one years ago and wasn’t impressed with it but I recently repurchased one after deciding to give it another try. I’ve been using it to apply my primer, base, concealer and cream blush and I am totally in love. It’s so quick and easy and gives a really natural finish to the products I’m using. Definitely the easiest way to apply my products these days! I got the new Beauty Blender Pro in black (it stains way less than the pink, although I think you can tell it’s well used already in the photo!) and it came with a mini solid cleansing bar for cleaning the Beauty Blender plus any other brushes and sponges you have.
(Just a note on tracking down the Beauty Blender: right now it’s hard to find in Australia (the link above goes to Beautylish – an American website that ships to Australia) but Sephora Australia promise that it is going to be available online shortly so if you’d rather hold out for Sephora, keep an eye on their website because it should be on there very soon.) UPDATE: the Beauty Blender is now available at Sephora Australia’s website!
A repeat favourite this month (my first I think!) but I have been reaching for this cream eyeshadow crayon so often this month that it warrants a mention! I’ve been using my By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow in Misty Rock almost every time I’ve done my makeup. I just use it with the NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base to make sure it lasts the day without any creasing or slippage. I just love the beautiful taupey metallic colour, it’s really my ideal neutral eyeshadow.
If you follow me on Instagram, you would have noticed two shoes on high rotation in the last month: my FRANKiE4 JAMiE boots and ELLiE sneakers. They are so insanely comfortable while still being really beautiful, I absolutely love them. I don’t have much time for uncomfortable shoes these days with long walks with the pram, coffee dates, and dealing with an almost on the move little girl. They were both a bit of a different choice for me from my usual shoe purchases. I’ve never been a ‘street sneaker’ girl or imagined that I would wear silver shoes but I have totally embraced these sneakers and I can’t imagine living without them. And while I’ve always loved boots, I’ve never really worn tan boots (I have traditionally been more of a black girl) but I love that these go with everything and are a bit of a feature item with the navy inserts on the sides.
My favourite clothing purchase of the last month has to be this Katies cobalt cashmere blend v-neck knit – the colour is just amazing! It’s a gorgeous bright blue that is such a great colour for me and one I want to have more of in my wardrobe so when I saw it I knew it had to be mine! The fabric is all natural which is something I definitely look for in my clothes, and particularly my knits, as it means it will not only be comfortable to wear but it will also last a long time. If you’re after a bright knit for winter, I definitely recommend this one!
I was fortunate enough to be sent this beautiful little onesie from Aster and Oak for Grace to try out and I absolutely love it. It can be really hard to find cute but not over the top girls clothes so I really like that it’s not super pink and overly girly. The cute print and the bright blue with the black and white is just gorgeous, plus the little frills at the arms add just enough cuteness without being too much. Plus if I end up having a boy one day I’ll be able to reuse it which isn’t true for quite a few of Grace’s clothes. Aster and Oak clothes are made from organic cotton so it was lovely and soft which I definitely want for Grace’s clothes. Even though it’s heading into winter I think Grace will still get lots of wear out of it with some leggings and long sleeved tops underneath. Just a heads up on the sizing if you do want to grab some of these gorgeous onesies for your little bubba, they do run on the bigger side. Grace is mostly in 0 clothes now but she is still in 00 in things like the Bonds Wondersuit zippys. The one Grace is wearing here is a 00, so if your bubba is on the smaller side maybe size down.
Reading, watching, listening
I’ve started reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman* this month and although I haven’t finished it yet, I am totally loving it. It’s so intriguing and Neil Gaiman is a great writer. It follows the story of a man named Shadow who has just been released from jail and takes a job for a stranger who calls himself Mr Wednesday. It’s basically exploring the premise of gods being personified, and what happens to the old gods that migrants bring with them but forget over the generations. It’s a hard one to explain but if you’re dipping your toe into science fiction I think this is a good read for you. It’s so interesting, I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
My must-watch right now is Game of Thrones and OMG!!! I can’t say too much because of spoilers, but I definitely hang out for Monday nights to watch it! Once this season is over I think I’m going to reread the books, especially since this season is now passed where the books are up to (George R. R. Martin hurry up and release the next one already!!!), and I can see some more of the foreshadowing happening (yep, I’m a dork).
Speaking of Game of Thrones (and revealing just how much of a dork I really am) I have been listening to the Game of Thrones podcast! I actually really love it because Stu doesn’t care for dissecting the episodes as much as I do so it’s a nice little outlet for my overanalysing. There are actually 3 podcast episodes a week, an instant review of the episode, a more in-depth discussion, and then a spoiler edition. So good!
So those are my favourites for May! What have been your favourites lately?
