It’s monthly favourites time! It’s so hard to believe it is basically halfway through the year, I feel like January wasn’t that long ago and here we are basically in July!! This months favourites has a good mix of beauty, clothes, some iPhone accessories, some things I’m absolutely loving to make my life with Grace that little bit easier, and my favourite candle.
If you haven’t seen my other favourites posts, this is a monthly post series where I’ll be sharing my ‘favourites’ for the month – products, food, clothes, books and anything else I’m loving and couldn’t get enough of in the last month.
As a side note: I thought it was worth mentioning that if you follow me on Snapchat (as well as Instagram), I post lots of things I’m loving throughout the month, including some real-time reviews of new products. So if you’re interested in my thoughts on lots of products I’m using, head on over there and check it out.
I ran out of moisturiser recently and decided to give something new a try and I had heard great things about this Origins GinZing Energy-boosting Moisturiser so I picked it up to give it a go. I love it! The texture of it is somewhere between a gel and a cream, so it’s pretty lightweight but absorbs into my skin nicely and I don’t feel like my skin is lacking in hydration. I like how easily it absorbs as I find that some more creamy moisturisers can get a bit white and streaky and feel like a bit more of a barrier on my face as I wait for them to absorb. The smell may put some people off (it reminds me of Orange Sherbies!) but if you don’t mind a scented moisturiser I definitely recommend giving it a try.
When I tried these Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl eyeliner pencils I wasn’t actually that impressed because they seemed quite smudgy. However, I soon realised that it was the mascara I was wearing with it (Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes – not a fan so far but I need to give it some more testing) rather than the eyeliners themselves that were the problem. I bought them in slightly different colours to my current collection of eyeliners which makes a nice change from blacks and browns. I got the shade Veruschka Mink which is a lovely smoky grey colour and is a nice everyday alternative to a brown eyeliner, and the shade Elizabeth Violet which is a dark purple which I just love wearing. Anything purple on my eyes is always going to rate pretty well because it makes my green eyes pop. The formula is nice and creamy and is able to smudge well if that’s what you like doing with your kohl liners. It lasts really well and I love the colours and the quality.
An oldie but a goody for my favourite eyeshadow this month. I have been reaching for my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette more than anything else this month for my eyeshadow needs! It’s beautiful and so versatile. The neutrals are very pinky-bronzy which I love, it’s definitely full of the types of colours I love wearing. I picked this palette up in Europe (which makes it 2 years old, but it’s still in good shape) and I think I wear it more consistently than any other eyeshadow. The colours I have used the most are ‘Burnout’, ‘Trick’, ‘Liar’ and ‘Factory’ which are all lovely metallics; but this month I’ve been loving using ‘Limit’ as a base with ‘Mugshot’ over the top. It pairs perfectly with my purple Charlotte Tilbury eyeliner too. This is the only Naked palette I own and as much as I would love to own the others as well, I’m pretty happy with how versatile this one is.
Go-To Skincare launched a new product at the start of this month an I was so excited to see it was a tinted sister to their Lips! lip balm. I loved Lips! when it first came out and I ran out a while ago so this was a good excuse to repurchase Lips! and pick up the new (Pinky-Nudey) Lips!. I had forgotten just how good Lips! is. It’s not a thick lanolin based lip balm like I’ve been using lately, but rather it’s a light oil based one (which still contains lanolin) which feels silky on the lips and smells amazing. It’s also cleared up the dry patches I was suffering from on my lips thanks to the change in season! The (Pinky-Nudey) Lips! has also won a place in my heart (and my handbag) as it’s a beautifully tinted lip balm with all the lovely hydrating qualities of Lips! but with the perfect pinky-nude shade (hence the name) and the benefit of an SPF 15. I struggle to find SPF products for my lips because they either taste/smell weird, or they cause a bit of a funny reaction on my lips, but this had neither of those problems! Definitely adding both to my ‘absolutely must repurchase’ list. (If you want to see (Pinky-Nudey) Lips! on me, you can check that out here, and if you want to see a swatch you can see that here).
This last beauty one is a bit of an odd one, but I just had to share it with you. I struggle to find good deodorants that actually do what they are supposed to do. Probably a bit of an overshare but I sweat a lot, and I have always found it hard to find a deodorant that will stop me smelling a bit off by the end of the day (fun fact, my husband reckons that I smell like sausage rolls when I sweat… just keeping it real here!!). I thought I had tried just about every ‘clinical’ deodorant out there but this month I picked up this Mitchum Clinical Gel Deodorant and oh my goodness, it is amazing! Since using it I haven’t been anywhere near as sweaty as normal but more importantly I haven’t had any unpleasant smelling episodes! It’s also a gel (which I’ve never tried in a deodorant before) so it goes on really easily and doesn’t leave horrible little white marks on all my clothes. I think this may be my holy grail deodorant (if one has such a thing!).
The one item of clothing that has been on constant rotation this month (aside from my pyjamas, because I’ve been sick) has been my Feather and Noise Tash jeans in black. I had never bought jeans online before because I usually need to try on a good 10 pairs of jeans before I find the right pair but I loved the look of these so I thought I would give it a try. And I’m so glad I did, because they are amazing. They are a great fit, have a nice amount of stretch, are super comfortable for moving around with Grace and the ripped parts are just perfect. They’re so lovely and I’m looking to buy a pair in a mid-blue as well because that is definitely a gap in my jeans wardrobe (this pair brings my total of jeans to two!). (On size, I’m wearing an 11 which I think is pretty true to size. My other jeans from Jeanswest are a 12 but they’re a bit big on me now as I bought them about 4/5 months post birth so I’ve lost a bit of weight since then).
I made two phone-related purchases lately and they have both become essentials. The first is this iPhone case. I had been on the hunt for an iPhone case for a long time but I had a very strict criteria for what I wanted. It needed to have slots to hold some of my cards, and a pocket for cash; it needed to be leather and well made; it shouldn’t have a clip or strap to hold the front of the case down (I knew it would just be an annoyance); and it needed to be a bright-ish colour to make it easy to spot in my bag. I basically wanted this case to replace my wallet for the most part so I only needed to take my phone when I went out but still had all my essentials with me. It has taken me a good 6 months to find what I wanted (they don’t make many ‘wallet phone cases’ for the iPhone 6 Plus) and I found it in this case! It is everything I wanted and it is beautiful. It is already so much more convenient to just grab my phone and know I have my important cards with me. It fits perfectly in the pocket of my pram and takes up far less room in my handbag than my wallet did so it was definitely a worthwhile purchase!
The other phone related purchase was these Sol Republic Shadow Wireless Headphones. I listen to podcasts around the house while Grace is sleeping and I’m cleaning or cooking, as well as when I’m out for walks, and I was getting really annoyed at being constantly tethered to my phone while I was wearing my headphones. I knew Carly Jacobs (from Smaggle) has these headphones and loves them so I thought they would be a good purchase. I am so converted to wireless headphones now! I love the freedom of being able to move around my kitchen (or anywhere really) without having to be within cord distance of my phone! Definitely worth it if you listen to music or podcasts a lot and hate being physically attached to your phone.
Since it’s gotten into winter and is really cold outside, I would take Grace for walks wrapped in blankets but she insisted on pulling, kicking or throwing them out of the pram and I was constantly stopping to adjust her blankets. I saw one of my friends had a Cozyosko Cosey toes footmuff (essentially a sleeping bag for the pram) and it seemed like the best solution so I promptly ordered one for myself. It’s such a lifesaver to have Grace wrapped up nice and snug and know she can’t get too cold or remove her blankets in any way now that she’s zipped into it! It’s so warm and it’ll last for ages (on the website it says up to 3 years, so it’ll last as long as Grace is in the pram I think), plus it unzips into a play mat and folds up into a pillow. It’s definitely one of my best purchases I’ve made for Grace, and I think it would be great for anyone who lives somewhere with very cold winters like I do.
Since Grace has 6 little teeth now (2 of those popped up over the last week and a half!) we’ve been brushing her teeth. It’s really important to start brushing their teeth from the time they have them because they can still get plaque buildup on their teeth which can cause damage in the long term. Because a full toothbrush is a bit much for Grace right now, I’ve been using this Silicone Finger Brush* which makes brushing her teeth relatively easy. I just do it while she’s having a bath and she is pretty good with it, she even opens her mouth ready for it! It’s a good way to ease her into brushing her teeth and hopefully when she’s a bit older I can introduce a kids toothbrush and she’ll already be used to the concept of brushing her teeth.
I am back on the candle burning bandwagon this month. I have so many candles and I used to ‘save’ them which meant I had so many candles but I also never really got to enjoy them. So I’ve promised myself that I will actually use them and the candle that has had the most ‘burn time’ this month has to be my Glasshouse Tahaa Candle*. If you’ve ever been into a Peter Alexander store, you will immediately recognise the scent because it’s the one they are always burning. It’s a delicious vanilla and caramel scented candle and I absolutely love it at this time of year because it is such a richly scented and warming candle. Plus my house smells amazing when I’ve got it burning. (The reason I’ve had to use a stock photo instead of a photo of my candle is because I actually used up the very last bits of my old Tahaa candle last week so I’ve just ordered a new one and am expecting it to be delivered any day now!!)
So those are my favourites for June! What have been your favourites lately?
