You might have noticed that things have been a lot quieter than usual around here so I thought I would give you a little update you on what’s been happening lately (and show you this gorgeous photo of Grace for added cuteness).
My quietness on the blog was totally unintentional, it was kind of just one of those things that happened. I find that I only have a finite amount of time to dedicate to Grace, Stu, the house, my social life and the blog so when one of those things requires more of my time than usual one (or more) of those things tends to drop off.
I’m heading back to work in a week and a half and when I got to about 7 weeks out from heading back to work it really hit me that I would be leaving Grace and actually going back to work. I had a lot I wanted to get done around the house before I headed back to work and I worked myself up into a little panic stressing about getting everything done, getting Grace used to me not being around and the whole using my work brain for the first time in a year thing.
My mild panic about it was compounded when I pulled out all my pre-pregnancy work clothes and basically nothing fit. I’m around the same weight as I was before I got pregnant but my hips and ribcage are wider than they used to be. My feet also went up half a size while I was pregnant and have stayed that way so not even my work shoes fit me! It was really stressing me out but thankfully I’ve now done a bit of shopping and created a work wardrobe that will do me for now and that I can build on over the next 6 months or so.
The next drama to take over my life was Grace getting sick for the first time. I think we did extraordinarily well for Grace to make it to 10 months without getting sick (she clearly already has a better immune system than I do!) but she did not handle being sick well at all. For 2 weeks she was clingy, sooky, required lots of breastfeeding and lots of rocking to sleep. She then started teething when she came out of that bout of sickness and in the meantime had infected Stu and I with her virus so all in all it was a fairly un-fun couple of weeks in our house!
Then a bit over a week ago I found out that my work is sort of having a mini restructure. Basically some functions will be ceased or wound back over the course of this financial year because our budget just isn’t in a position to allow those functions to continue (it’s more complicated than that but I won’t bore you with the details). Of course, one of those functions is my job. So I’ll be moving positions internally at some point in the next 6-9 months or so, which I’m choosing to see as an opportunity to do something different and increase my skills. But needless to say when I first found out I was suitably stressed out and worried about my job! It’s all good now, albeit still a little uncertain, and I’m feeling altogether a lot better about returning to work.
So that’s whats been happening over the last month and a bit. I’ve got a busy month ahead of me too. I’m starting back at work, we have Grace’s first birthday (and birthday party) at the start of September and then I am heading to the Gold Coast for the Problogger Conference! I’m excited to be heading to Problogger for the first time ever (I intended to go last year but I was 38 weeks pregnant!) but I just have so much on at the moment I’ve barely had a chance to think about it!
I’m hoping to be back posting here at least semi-regularly and no doubt I will have lots to write about with everything that is happening in the next few months.
I hope you’ve enjoyed catching up on what’s been happening with me lately! Even when I’m not posting here I’m almost always on social media (Instagram is usually where I’m most active, even when life is crazy busy) so make sure you follow me to keep up to date with what’s going on.
