Well this is a bit of an overdue post!! If you missed it, my little Gracie girl turned 1 last month. It’s still weird for me to say that she is 1 to be honest! But it’s been a while since I have given you a Grace update so I thought I’d check in and let you know what she’s doing at 1 (still weird to say!). (And just a warning to brace yourself for some serious baby spam!)
She is still a huge bundle of personality and fun. In fact, I think her cheekiness has only amplified since she started moving around! She can’t crawl (and it honestly seems like she has no plans to do so) but she is an awesome bum-shuffler. Anyone at Problogger would have seen her little shuffle in action and it is just the most adorable thing ever. She likes to be sitting up and have her hands free for mischief making at all times it seems.
It’s taken me a while to pull this post together because I attempted to write this on one of my days off from work supervising her mischief from the couch. I had to keep stopping to put my laptop down and retrieve her from the kitchen, the front door, our bedroom, the dining room… Basically she wants to be everywhere and into everything. So it kind of was abandoned until I had some time during one of her naps to write it!
She’s definitely a little mischief maker. She’s just figured out how to open the sliding door connecting our dining room to the kitchen, and she’s also worked out how to turn power points on and off! She will hilariously bum shuffle across the room as quickly as she can to get into whatever she thinks is most interesting (rarely her actual toys) and speeds up to try and outrun you if you get up to try and pick her up. It’s so hard to be annoyed at her getting into things she shouldn’t when she’s just so adorable doing it!
Since I’ve started work she is a thousand times more cuddly than she used to be. It’s so cute. She’ll throw her arms around my neck or Stu’s and lay her head down on my shoulder for a good snuggle. It totally melts my heart and I secretly love how clingy she can be sometimes now. She sometimes gets a bit upset when we leave for work in the morning but my mother-in-law assures us that it’s quickly forgotten when she starts playing with her toys.
Speaking of her toys, she’s definitely engaging with them on a whole new level now which is so exciting to see. She has a few musical toys that have buttons to play different songs, and she loves pressing a button and then dancing to the song. Her dancing is just the most gorgeous thing ever, she really gets into it with the shaking hips and shoulders. I think we’re going to have a little dancer on our hands! (Click here if you want to see the most adorable video of her dancing).
She’s fascinated with taking toys in and out of their boxes and containers. She will happily spend a good chunk of her play time taking all the toys out of one box and putting them into another box. I don’t think she’s going to be a child who thrives in mess, she definitely enjoys fewer toys out at a time and when there are too many toys out she gets a bit overwhelmed and cranky. She’s going to be a little organiser like me I think!!
eight nine ten teeth (they just keep coming!!) so she has the cutest toothy little grin ever. Now she will cut teeth with minimal fuss, but she doesn’t let us check in her mouth too often so sometimes it’s a few days before I notice she has cut a tooth!
We’ve been struck down with a few illnesses over the past few months, poor Grace had a virus, then tonsillitis, then croup! But she seems to be doing much better now and I’m glad that the weather is warming up and the really bad season for illnesses is coming to an end.
With Grace reaching the end of all these illnesses it’s marked the return of her sleeping through the night consistently again. She has always been a pretty good sleeper but from about 6 months until she hit 1 year she would wake up once a night a few times a week or fortnight. Now she’s back to sleeping through every night (touch wood) and the timing couldn’t be better! Going back to work and having to be up during the night with a baby is hard, so I’m really glad that it’s behind us for now.
This is such a fun age, and I’m enjoying it so much! The 6-10 month period was probably the hardest for me personally, so I’m really glad that we’ve come through that now and can do a few more things with Grace now. She’s a really adaptable baby (she proved herself over and over at Problogger!) and it’s so nice knowing we can take her just about anywhere and do lots of things with her and she’ll be happy and just go with the flow.
She definitely has her difficult moments too but she is such a gorgeous, delightful little girl and I’m so lucky to be a mum to such an amazing baby!
So that’s about it for Grace at 1, I’m sure there are about a thousand more things I could tell you about her but I don’t want this to be too much longer than it already is!! I share a fair bit of Grace over on social media (Instagram and Snapchat for the most part) so head over there if you want more of an insight into her shenanigans!
